Support for the Sri Sathya Sai Hospitals

Super Speciality Hospital, Puttaparthi and Bangalore

Two Super Speciality hospitals in South India treat all sections of society absolutely free of charge. These hospitals set up by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba are a boon to the people of India, a large part of whom cannot afford expensive health-care. The hospitals do more than just cure disease. They save families from destitution. For the millions of Indians who live in poverty, with no medical insurance, free healthcare is the only hope. Heart Valve Bank’s primary role has been and continues to be the provision of artificial heart valves to these remarkable institutions. There is a high prevalence of congenital disease and other heart conditions that has resulted in a large number of operations requiring these valves.

General Hospital, Puttaparthi

Heart Valve Bank has continued to provide medication and equipment on a regular basis depending on prevailing needs.

Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital in Pothapalli

One of the larger projects that Heart Valve Bank has been involved in is the establishment of the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital in Pothapalli, which was opened to the public on the 14th February 2009.

During the 4 years since it was inaugurated, much has been achieved:

  • The hospital has served 94,330 patients as of March 2013, providing free medical treatment and also free food for the patients and attendees.
  • A mobile hospital has served dozens of remote villages by creating basic awareness on preventive medicine as well as providing curative healthcare
  • A child welfare project is taking care of 2000 children in 5 villages by emphasizing the importance of a holistic and spiritual approach to health living.

The challenge of establishing and running this kind of hospital in a remote village like Ch.Pothapalli was enormous. With the grace of God, we have overcome these challenges and the hospital is entering into its 5th year of operation with great enthusiasm and determination to take forward this offering of selfless service.

Care Well Medical Centre, Lagos, Nigeria

The Care Well Medical Centre (CWMC), Nigeria was opened on 16th July 2005. Its vision is to eliminate leprosy, control and prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and Malaria in the economically backward ethnic communities of Nigeria.

Other one-off activities

Heart Valve Bank feels privileged to have also been able to support a number of other one-off projects and causes including:

  • The sponsoring of various Medical Camps.
  • Flying a patient all the way from Uganda to the Sri Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital in India for urgent and critical cardiac surgery.
  • The construction of a nurses accommodation block.
  • Supporting the Ethandweni White Water Sai Children’s Home in Zimbabwe.

Heart Valve Bank is sponsoring at least 4 to 6 heart surgeries each month for urgent cases that require immediate attention. The Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty hospitals have developed long waiting lists and many poor and needy people are therefore being referred to private hospitals in Bangalore and Hyderabad including the prestigious Narayana Hryduayala hospitals. Two eminent surgeons (Dr Anil Kumar and Dr Vijay Agarwal) are supporting Heart Valve Bank by performing these critical surgeries.
